The Challenge
Due to the way the existing site was organized, pages of the site were “hidden” or difficult to find due to the depth of specialties, and the volume of information related to each topic.
Goals
Understand how users search for information on healthcare related sites and create a user journey that facilitates their search, presenting the right type or information, and right amount of information at each step, with contextual calls to action where appropriate.
Design Process
Content Flow and Organization
Initially, we took inventory of the existing website architecture to identify limitations in user flows and page design. We then worked with stakeholders from Cedars-Sinai’s digital team and those from various specialties to understand what the needs and differences that had to be accounted for were. Because each specialty has its own breadth and depth of information, we had to make sure we started with the right framework and content hierarchy.
Flexible, Modular Design System
To accommodate the various page layouts we had proposed, templates were stress tested to ensure they could support the right information at every step. I worked closely with the visual design team to test content placement and page flow.
User Testing
Once initial rounds of designs were completed and reviewed with stakeholders, I wrote the testing plan and facilitated many rounds of testing for both desktop and mobile users across different ages, races, and locations. Tests were conducted through UserZoom GO. Once completed, I analyzed the results and compiled data to support design changes that needed to be made. Testing covered how a user would navigate through a specific specialty (page flows), to more detailed interactions (subnavigation testing).
